On-Screen Display (OSD): An OSD can be displayed on your television for easy system setup. The OSD can be sent through the S-video or composite video monitor output, but is not sent through the component video output of the receiver. The joystick/enter button on the remote makes display navigation and setting adjustment simple and convenient. The OSD set-up allows you to do the following:

  • Background color: select from blue, green, magenta, or red
  • Immediate display
    • Off: select to turn off the immediate display of operations
    • Normal: display operations in bottom right corner of screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio
    • Wide: display operations in bottom right corner of screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio
  • OSD Output: OSD is output through the composite and S-video monitor out connections

Component Video Switching: In addition to composite and S-Video switching, this unit can switch between two component video sources. There are 2 component video inputs and 1 component video output; each input and output has jacks labeled "Y", "Pb" and "Pr". This feature allows you to connect, and switch between, high resolution video sources equipped with component video outputs. The component video inputs are assignable, which allows you to tell the unit which input source is connected to each set of component video jacks.

S-Video and Composite Video Signal Conversion: This unit is equipped with a simple Y/C separation circuit and a simple Y/C mixing circuit. These circuits will up convert incoming composite video signals to S-video signals and down convert incoming S-video signals to composite video signals to be sent to the monitor outputs. This feature allows you to connect your television with a single cable (either S-video or composite) to the receiver's monitor output.

WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology): This technology uses low-negative-feedback circuit topology for accurate signal reproduction, improved dynamic signal-to-noise ratio, and better delivery of power peaks.

24-bit/192kHz Digital-to-Analog Decoding: This receiver is equipped to decode 24-bit/192kHz PCM digital signals for playback of high-resolution recordings.

Subwoofer Adjustable Crossover: This receiver has a built-in crossover for the subwoofer output. This setting is available when you tell the receiver that there is a subwoofer being used, or when you set your main speakers to "Small". The frequencies that you can choose from are: 80, 100, and 120 Hz.

Assignable Digital Inputs: Allows you to tell the unit which input source is connected to which digital input jack.

DVD (5.1 Multi-Channel) Input: The DVD input on this receiver also doubles as a 5.1 multi-channel input, which can be used for future 5.1 channel decoders, DVD-Audio players, and SACD players. The input consists of left front, right front, center, left surround, right surround and subwoofer RCA inputs. The level of the subwoofer channel can be set in the range of -30dB to +12dB, and the level of all the other channels can be independently set from -12dB to +12dB; once the levels have been set for equal playback volume, the master volume control is used to adjust overall volume. Note: If you choose to hook a stereo source to this input, just use the left and right stereo RCA inputs.

Listening Modes:

  • Stereo: All input is sent to the left and right front speakers.
  • Direct: For purest sound and minimal sound adjustments and filtration, this mode sends all sound is directly sent to the front left and right speakers only, past all the internal processors, and no sound is sent to the subwoofer.
  • Dolby Pro Logic II: Pro Logic II is a new Dolby Laboratories technology that produces surround sound from any stereo source, including CDs, VHS tapes, TV shows, digital audio files like MP3 and AAC, cassette tapes, and FM radio broadcasts. Like Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II has stereo surround output, giving you a more realistic surround sound experience. Unlike Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II allows you to enjoy a "5.1-like" presentation using any analog stereo source. There are two Pro Logic II modes, which have been designed to ensure optimal playback of movie soundtracks and music-only sources; you may select Pro Logic II Movie or Pro Logic II Music to match the type of audio being decoded. In Dolby Pro Logic II Music, there are 3 parameters that you can choose from:
    • Panorama: this setting extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers for a wraparound effect with side wall imaging
    • Dimension: this setting gradually adjusts the soundfield forward or backwards.
    • Center width: this setting adjusts where the center sound image comes from (center channel only, L and R speaker only, or all three)
  • Dolby Digital Surround: standard Dolby Digital with up to 5.1 channels
  • Dolby Digital EX Surround: when using the surround back speakers, the signal is played back in matrix 6:1
  • DTS: standard DTS with up to 5.1 channel surround output
  • DTS-ES Discrete 6.1: with the addition of the surround back channel (speaker located behind you), this new format has all 6.1 channels recorded independently for a completely discrete digital format. The surround back channel adds spaciousness and depth to the soundtrack.
  • DTS-ES Matrix 6:1: this format has the surround back channel matrix encoded into the left and right surround channels. In this case the surround back channel is not discrete, but the decoded information from the surround back speakers adds depth relative to standard DTS software.
  • DTS Neo 6: this mode simulates 6.1-channel output from a two-channel source such as a VCR or CD player. There is a Cinema mode, which makes movement more realistic. There is also a Music mode, which adds a natural spaciousness to the music.
  • Orchestra: This mode is best suited for classical and opera music. The center channel is turned off and the surround channels are emphasized to widen the stereo image. This will simulate the natural reverberation created in a large concert hall.
  • TV Logic: The TV Logic Mode offers the acoustics of a TV program being aired in the studio. It enhances the entire surround sound field and clarity of conversation.
  • Unplugged: This mode is suitable for acoustic instrument sounds, vocals, and jazz music. By emphasizing the front stereo image, it simulates the acoustics encountered at stage front.
  • Studio-Mix: This mode is for rock and pop music. Playing music in this mode will give you a lively soundfield with a powerful acoustic image that will make you feel like you are in a club.
  • All Ch Stereo: This mode can only be used with 2 channel sources and is designed for playing background music. The front, surround and surround back channels create a stereo image that encompasses the entire area.

Bass Management and Speaker Setup: Speaker size settings can be made to ensure that small speakers do not receive full-range signals and to tell the receiver where to send signals. Speaker distance settings are used by the receiver to calculate and set the delay times required for proper surround sound playback.

  • Front Speakers: Speaker size may be set to "Large" or "Small", and speaker distance may be set in the range of 1-foot (0.3 meter) to 30-feet (9 meters) in 1 foot (0.3 meter) increments.
  • Center Speaker: Speaker size may be set to "Large", "Small" or "None", and speaker distance may be set in the range of 1-foot (0.3 meter) to 30-feet (9 meters) in 1 foot (0.3 meter) increments.
  • Surround Speakers: Speaker size may be set to "Large", "Small" or "None", and speaker distance may be set in the range of 1-foot (0.3 meter) to 30-feet (9 meters) in 1 foot (0.3 meter) increments.
  • Subwoofer: The subwoofer setting may be set to "Yes" or "No".

CinemaFILTER Circuitry: This circuitry provides a subtle high-frequency rolloff for proper playback of soundtracks in the home. This feature provides the means to easily remove excess treble response from soundtracks that were originally equalized to sound best in a large theater. This function only works in the Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II Movie, DTS, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, and the DTS Neo:6 Cinema Surround modes.

"Late Night" Feature: The "Late Night" feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings that have been encoded with dynamic range data. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume control setting that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to Dolby Digital recordings encoded with dynamic range data without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: "Off", "Low", and "High". Note: This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.

"IntelliVolume" Setup: the "IntelliVolume" setup function allows you set a volume correction value in the range of -12dB to +12dB, in 1dB increments, for each source to prevent large jumps in volume when switching from one source to another. This feature eliminates the inconvenience of manually readjusting the volume control each time you switch from a source with a weak signal to a source with a strong signal and vice versa.

Sleep function: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after as much as 90 minutes or as little as 10 minutes; choices are presented in 10 minute increments.

Display Dimmer:  Allows you to set the display illumination to normal, dark or very dark.

Zone 2 Outputs: This receiver allows you to listen to two different audio sources in two separate zones simultaneously. The remote zone (Zone 2) outputs are both powered and pre-amp level, allowing you to connect a set of stereo speakers directly to the receiver's Zone 2 speaker outputs, or connect a separate amplifier or self-powered speakers to the Zone 2 preamp outputs. With an optional IR remote control repeater system, you can independently select the Zone 2 input source and control the volume of the Zone 2 outputs.
