The Raichle 60 Degree is a very aggressive and purposeful 4-season boot. It boasts an incredibly robust upper with a huge rubber rand protecting the leather upper when scrambling over rocks, while a Gore-Tex waterproof lining guarantees dry feet. The lacing extends well down the boot for a closer fit and the double tongue further enhances fit and comfort. The higher-than-average ankle cuff adds a touch more support for mountaineering on steeper terrain. The outsole is exceptionally aggressive, which again is ideal for mountaineering and biting into deep snow. The overall feel of these on the foot is very good, with a well-cushioned ride and decent rolling action on every step making them comfortable above and below the snowline. The boot feels great when climbing too, meaning it’s a good all-rounder. But the Raichle 60 Degree is slightly better orientated towards steeper terrain, as the name suggests, so if you just want a boot for glacier travel and walking with crampons on gentler slopes others may be better. All that rubber and support has added to the weight as well, while the walking action is not quite as smooth as some less technical designs.
