The album presents the art of Theophanes the Greek, who has had a great influence on Russian religious art. Known as a wise and learned man by his contemporaries, Theophan decorated several churches in Moscow and Novgorod. This album includes all his known surviving works with commentary by a famous art historian Mikhail Alpatov (b. 1902).
