Harbingers and Agents of Postmodern Literature – Aba-Carina Parlog

PREZENTARE CARTE The book is meant to function as a literature course for students taking up classes on language and literature. It begins with an introduction to postmodernism, which makes a connection to the previous trend and explains the differences between the modernist and the postmodernist period. The author presents the texts of the harbingers and agents of the latter trend from an interdisciplinary perspective, thus emphasising the influence of postmodernism and its developing stage. She focuses on such writers as George Orwell, Samuel Beckett, William Golding, John Fowles, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, J. M. Coetzee, Jeanette Winterson, etc. The course is a useful tool for those who wish to discover more about the writers’ lives and work and the hidden meanings of their prose writing together with the technical details that they used in order to support their narratives.   DESPRE AUTOR Dr. Aba-Carina Pârlog is a senior lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, West University of Timişoara, Romania. Her fields of interest are (post)modern literature, semiotics and translation studies. She is the author of the books The Clash between Body and Mind: Orwell, Beckett and Durrell, Timişoara: West University Press (2006), Harbingers and Agents of Postmodern Literature, Timişoara: West University Press (2011) and Translation and Literature: An Interdisciplinary Approach, Timişoara: West University Press (2014) and has co-authored others, such as Translating the Body, München: Lincom (2007) / Iaşi: Polirom (2009). She has published many papers at home and abroad. She has taught English literature at Roehampton University, London, Université Sorbonne – Paris 4 and Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. She has worked as a translator and interpreter for fifteen years, working together, among others, with German State Theatre of Timişoara, translating poetry and prose.
