Lionel Richie has been an R&B hitmaker since his days with the Commodores in the 1970s, but he experienced a fallow period starting in the late '90s, during which his records make relatively little chart impact. That all changed with the 2006 album COMING HOME, Richie's biggest success since his '80s peak. So expectations were high for the follow-up, and JUST GO lives up to those expectations, simply by presenting a perfect distillation of what Richie has always done best. Each tune achieves pop/R&B perfection, as percolating grooves rub up against elegantly conceived melodies through which Richie's warm, inviting voice takes flight. Guests on JUST GO range from Akon to Dutch jazz singer Trintje Oosterhuis, but Richie's musical personality comes through loud and clear on every cut here.
