BINO BINI (1916 - 2007)(the famous goldsmith and artist)

- An eclectic and multifaceted personality, “a modern sculptor with an amazingly ancient heart” as Antonio Paolucci remembered him, Bino Bini was also a painter, engraver, medal maker and goldsmith. The Wine & Food Biennale – November 16-19, 2018. An all-round artist, able to express himself cleverly through various techniques and materials, declined in the most different ways – from chiselling to monumental marble and bronze sculptures, following the steps of the great masters of Renaissance.

Bini was a protagonist of the figurative arts world of the 20thcentury, taking up important positions such as engraver of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing of the Republic of San Marino. In Florence, he founded the International School of Metalsmithing in via Metastasio 15, where entire generations of goldsmiths and medal makers grew up. Even the prestigious Japanese company Mikimoto asked him to create a piece of jewellery embellished with a profusion of pearls. Five of his creations are treasured inside the eponymous Gallery in the elegant district of Ginza in Tokyo.

On show, a sampling of his whole artistic activity, collected with passion by his beloved daughter Anna Bini Rizzo, who is also an expert goldsmith and teacher – sketches, medals, sophisticated jewellery, terracotta and bronze sculptures, (such as the bronze portraits of his three nephews Silvia, Chiara and Stefano), as well as important liturgical objects. And obviously, his beloved animals, portrayed one by one with an amazing sensitivity in all their physical and expressive peculiarities – the rooster, the wounded hare, the crow, the fox, the cat, the puppy, up to the big bronze sculpture made in 1977, depicting an unusual and peculiar subject: the Wasp Fight, where even the subtle and almost imperceptible wing flap, or the excited fight of those two little bodies acquire an unexpected and seductive solemnity and an epic dimension, thanks to the “golden hands” of Bino Bini.
