The Ethernet extension board allows the controller to connect to the network. It is an expansion board with a built-in WIZnet W5100 TCP/IP microprocessor. This board is connected to the board by a long wire-wrap header. Using the Ethernet library in the IDE, you can easily connect to the network using this extension board. This extension board supports 4 sockets at the same time.

The R3 version of the Expansion Board also has four additional ports for the standard 1.0 output: two on the ARFF and two on the RESET. Two ports on the side of the Reset, an IOREF, are used to adapt the expansion board to the motherboard. Another empty port is reserved for future expansion.

This version adds a micro-SD card slot, with network storage function. In addition, it is fully compatible with the Duemilanove, Mega series. It also has a separate POE (Power-Over-Ethernet) module. The module can be welded to the motherboard to transmit power through twisted pair wires. This is IEEE802.3AF compliant and compatible with existing POE modules.
